*Late Emir of Rano, Dr Tafida Abubakar Ila II during one of his very colourful outings
Turakin Rano and House of Representatives member representing Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure, Alhaji Kabir Alhassan Rururm on Saturday confirmed the death of the Emir of Rano in Kano State, Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila. According to him, the emir died in a hospital in Kano at about 4:45pm after a brief illness. He was aged 74. He was buried on Saturday according to Islamic injunctions.
There was no confirmation linking his death to the ravaging Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has also infected a good number of Kano residents. However, the gross disregard to social distancing among other protocols as directed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) by Kano residents has been a source of worry. Lately, there have been reports of mysterious deaths in Kano including eminent academic professors, but no autopsy was carried out to know the cause of the reported mass deaths in the ancient city of Kano. The late emir is survived by his two wives and 17 children.
