At Last, Buhari Finally Makes London Medical Trip

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari left Abuja on Sunday for London on a routine medical trip. It has been the routine of successive Nigerian presidents to shuttle for medical trips to Europe and America, which is why the health sector in Nigeria has remained in limbo since the British colonial masters handed over power.

Unfortunately, Buhari who was packaged and sold to Nigerians as the man with the magic wand to fix Nigeria has practically dragged the country to almost 50 years back. To put it mildly, nothing is working in Nigeria…not the hospitals, not education, not electricity, insecurity is on its highest peak. The list is endless, yet Buhari’s party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) as well as the government have continued to blame the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) even having been in power since 2015.

Yet, Buhari the self-acclaimed messiah does not see anything wrong in going to seek medical help in another country managed by other presidents like him. As a matter of fact, Buhari was scheduled to travel from Nairobi last week to London but suddenly returned to Abuja last Friday.

Last month, the Presidential Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina had said Buhari would visit his doctor in London for ‘routine medical checks that will last for a maximum of two weeks’.

President Buhari’s trip to Kenya last week was to participate at the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Environmental Programme. His return took many by surprise, given the earlier spelt-out details of his itinerary.
