Insecurity: Northern Youths Protest Deplorable Situation In The Region

Following the demonstration by a coalition of northern youth groups that went rampaging on Tuesday requesting the President Muhammadu Buhari led All progressive Congress (APC) Party Federal Government to stop the massive killings and raiding of communities in the North by bandits and Boko Haram insurgents, Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity has told the protesting youths to count their blessings and name them one-by-one as one Christian song would say because the enjoyed such freedom because of democracy.

With all the money that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is pumping into security in northern Nigeria, the northern part of the country has practically become a theatre of killings where all manners of characters disregard the once dreaded Nigerian military, kill for fun and with leisure and get away without any pressure. The sad fact is that some of the casualties include military personnel who are murdered like bush meat by the insurgents to the surprise of the whole world.

But amid the worrisome incidents and gruesome killings of innocent Nigerians of northern extraction by insurgents, the Presidential Spokesperson on Tuesday knocked some northern youths for their recent statement on the security challenges that is faced in the country, adding that they would have been met with a harsh retribution from a dictatorial government were it not for democracy.

The protesting youths totally decried the deplorable security situation in the north and demanded the immediate removal of the service chiefs. In a swift reaction, Shehu said, “For a start, if the group dared to issue such a comment under non-democratic method, they would have met a swift and harsh retribution from a dictatorial government. They should thank their stars that we are operating a truly democratic government, where the rights of free speech are guaranteed and protected.”
