Nigeria’s Problem Is Accepting Wrongdoing As The ‘Will Of God’ – Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has said that one of the problems of Nigeria is accepting wrongdoing as the will of God. Obi said this while responding to a question during an interview on Arise TV on Monday.

He said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, is both an elder brother and father to him, but the process which brought him (Tinubu) as president was wrong and would be challenged.

“I am very respectful to prominent Nigerians especially church leaders, traditional rulers and all that, I remain very respectful to them and I think they should be respectful of what they represent in our society but I disagree with them, what they are actually preaching is the problem of Nigeria, the problem of Nigeria is accepting wrongdoing, accepting what is unacceptable; that is using God’s name in vain; that’s not what God said, God said do not use my name in vain.

“What they are saying is not God’s wish, it is not God’s plan for Nigeria; so why don’t we accept that the 133 million Nigerian who are poor is God’s wish? Why can we accept that 95 million Nigerians living in absolute poverty is God’s wish? It is God’s wish that we don’t have electricity, it is God’s wish that your children are kidnapped, it is God’s wish that we have collapsed healthcare leading to be country with highest infant mortality, everything that is happening is God’s will; that is not what God says, No, God’s wish is when you do the right thing”

“This election was predicated and planned  and we have clear laws about the conduct of the election, if it was followed, if this result were uploaded from the polling units like that to the server; we won’t be here; we won’t be talking about this, it would have been concluded in a matter of hours without anybody arguing about it but it is not God’s wish that you do the wrong thing it is not God’s wish that you go and rob a train and take money and start sharing it, it is not God’s wish, this is what is killing the country”

“We want God’s wish to be truly God’s wish and that is when we do the right things and God gives his blessings, what do you tell the young ones growing up? That is it God’s wish that you steal that is God’s wish that you conduct a wrong election.” He also said he had no issue with the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu but challenging the process in which he was declared winner.

“The APC presidential candidate is an elder brother; I can even call him a father and I have all respect for him, but I have not been opportune to speak with him. I don’t have any issue with him, I respect him and I will continue to do so, I am only challenging the process in which he was declared the winner because that process is wrong and that process must be corrected , I believe that things must be done rightly , we must follow the law, the rule of law we must have a society where things are done in a decent organized manner especially as we trend to build this new nation that will be exemplary and the world will take us serious and respect us”

Obi while reacting to a comment by the spokesperson of the APC, Festus Keyamo, that he (Obi) helped Tinubu win the election said that Bola Tinubu the declared winner of the February 25 presidential election did not win the election because to win is to win the people.

He said, “I contested the election, I wasn’t contesting to help anybody to win and I will continue to say that even the declared winner did not win, you may have been declared by whatever means but you have not won the election, to win is to win the people, democracy is government of the people, by the people, for the people, that means if you must win you must win the people but if you don’t win the people you have not won. What we are challenging; the rascality is what we are challenging.”
