Two People Shot Dead In A Community In Enugu State

Two persons were said to have been shot dead at Aguikpa community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State yesterday. The victims were identified as Ikechukwu Nnamani, a former President General of the crisis – infected Oruku community and one Ndubuisi Nnamani, a native of Aguikpa community.

According to reports from the area, some gunmen believed to be working for a faction in the Oruku communal conflict ambushed their victims somewhere near the health centre at Aguikpa community in the early hours of Friday and gunned down their key two targets.

It could not be ascertained if any arrest was made by security agencies following the shooting, but sources said some of the residents fled their homes on Friday.

NewsBits learnt that the gunmen have been terrorizing the people of the area, killing and burning houses of opponents after the Enugu State Government set up a judicial panel into the Oruku-Umuode communal conflict.

The findings and recommendations of the panel had since been submitted to the state government but not much has been heard about its implementation.

NewsBits reports that at least 12 persons including the former traditional ruler of Oruku community, Igwe Emmanuel Mbah and other notable individuals in the community, had been murdered due to the conflict. It was learnt that the two corpses of the victims were removed by policemen to a mortuary in Enugu hours after the incident on Friday.
