Kanu’s Lawyer, Ejimakor, Threatens DSS For Refusing To Release IPOB Leader

By NewsBits

The Special Counsel to leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor has threatened the Department of State Services (DSS), for failure to comply with a court ruling ordering his client’s release.

Barrister Ejimakor warned that failure to release Kanu would trigger prompt judicial measures against DSS. The Special Counsel disclosed this while noting that he had served the DSS a final administrative demand for Kanu’s release.

NewsBits recalls that Kanu had been kept behind bars by the DSS since he was arrested in June 2021 in Kenya and subjected to extraordinary rendition. The IPOB leader was picked because of his agitation for the actualization of Biafra.

NewsBits also recalls that following his arrest and arraignment, the Court of Appeal in Abuja granted Kanu bail, but the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of Nigeria refused to release him. A Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State, also declared the IPOB leader’s rearrest in Kenya unconstitutional and illegal.

In a tweet, Ejimakor wrote: “Yesterday, I served on the DSS a final ‘administrative’ demand to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in line with the October 26, Judgment of the Federal High Court (Umuahia). Failure to comply will trigger prompt ‘judicial’ measures to enforce compliance.”
