2023: Tinubu Begs APC Senators For Support, Says I’ll Never Step On Buhari’s Toes

By Andrew Onyejuruuwa

From all indications, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is desperate to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023 and would say and promise anything to realise his lifelong ambition. However, Nigerians at home and in the diaspora cannot wait for the Buhari presidency to be over because of the untold hardship that have befallen the nation since the APC came to power in 2015.

Although the APC promised Nigerians heaven on earth during their campaign, almost eight years after the APC assumed power, Nigeria’s woes have grown from bad to worst – insecurity and fight against corruption, which the APC promised to make a thing of the past have hit all time high. Electricity is at its worst state since independence. Education, housing, road network, health just to mention a few all need declaration of state of emergency just as the Naira continues to nosedive daily making life unbearable in Nigeria.

Amidst all these problems, which the APC could not fix in nearly eight years, Tinubu who is also the national leader of the APC that has once again sort to reassure the power base of President Muhammadu Buhari by vowing that he would never step on the President’s toes, which sounds like his presidency would indeed be a continuation of Buhari administration. Tinubu said that he intends to step into Buhari’s shoes. The former governor of Lagos State made the vow on Wednesday when he asked the Senate Caucus of the APC to support his lifelong ambition of being the President of Nigeria.

At the meeting of the APC Senate Caucus at the New Senate wing, Tinubu said that having served as a state Chief Executive Officer and Senator, he has the experience and capacity to be the President of the Country.

Tinubu was received by the APC Senators led by the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan in room 301. Tinubu who hailed the National Assembly for sustaining the nation’s democracy, said that the interest of women is necessary, adding that the APC was doing its best to include the interest of women.

Tinubu’s wife, Remi, is a serving Senator. Asiwaju Tinubu was equally a Senator in the defunct Third Republic before he served two terms as governor of Lagos State at the beginning of the Fourth Republic. It is believed that many of the APC senators, including the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, are arch loyalists of President Buhari.
