2024 AFCON Opener: Host Nation Cote d’Ivoire beat Guinea Bissau 2-0

2024 hosts Côte d’Ivoire began their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau.

They began the match the brighter of the two sides and were duly rewarded as early as the 4th minute when Seko Fofana finished off an assist from his captain, Franck Kessie. They doubled their advantage in the 58th minute when Jean-Philippe Krasso finished off a well-crafted effort.

Guinea Bissau who were second best in the entire match made a late rally and called Cote d’ivore’s goalkeeper into action, but the Elephants held on to win 2-0. With the win, Cote d’Ivoire top Group A, ahead of Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea’s encounter on Sunday afternoon.
