Alhaji Maitama Sule Dies In Egypt, Body To Arrive Nigeria Tomorrow

News reaching Newsbitsng.com has it that the former Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations (UN), Alhaji Maitama Sule, has joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday July 3, 2017 in an undisclosed Hospital in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. News have it that he was rushed to for medical attention.

One of Maitama Sule’s surviving son, Alhaji Mukhtar Maitama Sule, who confirmed the death of his father, said he died in Egypt, 24 hours after arrival at the hospital. According to him, his dad’s remains would be flown to Nigeria tomorrow for a befitting burial, according to Muslim injunctions.

It was only on May 10 that the late Sule, who was the Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), charged northern governors on the need to unite and restore the past glory of the region. He told the media then that the forum had decided to engage in a tour of the 19 northern states, beginning with Kano, with a view to campaign for the revitalisation of the old glory of the north, “which was truly united, the north, which nobody referred to his tribe or religion, the north, which people related freely in spite of political affiliation,” among other good virtues.
