Shortly after removing the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and now Emir Muhammadu Sanusi ll as the Emir of Kano, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has announced Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the new emir.
Making the announcement at the Government House on Monday at the presence of the four kingmakers, the Secretary to the State Government Usman Alhaji said: “Following the resolution of the State Executive Council at its emergency council meeting, I have been directed by his Excellency, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, based on the provision of section 11 (1) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019, based on the recommendation of the executive council, I hereby announce Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the former emir of Bichi as the new emir of Kano as the 15th Emir of Kano.”
Before his appointment, Alhaji Bayero was the emir of the newly created Emirate of Bichi. However, the dethroned Emir Sanusi has been relocated to Nasarawa State, as he is not supposed to live in the same emirate with the new Emir. It was learnt that the deposed emir relocated to a reserved residence at Keana Local Government Area in Nasarawa State and as at press time, the Emir of Lafia and other dignitaries are currently awaiting Sanusi’s arrival.
It was also gathered that before the embattled emir was taken away amidst tight security, he was reportedly put under house arrest with the palace sealed off by the armed security men. Ganduje had announced the removal of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria over disrespect to constituted authorities, an act contrary to part 3, section 13 of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019.
