Anambra NUJ: Governor Soludo, Speaker Udeze, Others To Attend Press Week

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof.  Chukwuma Soludo, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, and the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu are expected to attend a grand finale of the 2023 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,  (NUJ), Anambra State Council, billed for Thursday, this week in Awka, the state capital.

A statement issued by the Chairman of  the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu also listed other dignitaries expected at the event to include: the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime and the NUJ National President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo; while the first female professor of Mass Communication in the Subsaharan Africa, Chinyere Okunna will be the chairman of the occasion.

The statement noted that, APGA’s National Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa is expected to deliver a keynote address themed, “Pragmatic Media Practice as an antidote to sustainable development in a distressed economy: A focus on Anambra State.”

It informed that the weeklong event, which kicked off last week with an interactive session with the APGA National Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa would be climaxed by a media summit and Anambra NUJ Man of The Year Award ceremony for the year 2023.

The statement further disclosed that the event would also feature presentation of Professor Chinyere Okunna Ethical Journalist of the year 2023 Award to the yet to be determined winner.

The Chairman of the Press Week Planning Committee, Dr Njideka Ezeonyejiaku and the Secretary, Chukwuleta Chigozie said other activities marking the event include, presentation of NUJ 2023 Anambra Man of the Year Award on the Traditional Ruler of Ogidi kingdom, Igwe Alex Onyido.

Other activities lined up for the week are visitations to three charity homes, Community Children Homes in Awka and Onitsha, and Sickle Cell community Home Agulu, as well as facility tour of Tiger Foods Company Limited.

There will also be a novelty match between the NUJ team and the state judiciary team, while there will also be NUJ Outreach to the challenged/ displaced communities in the three senatorial zones with Karaoke Night/ Couples unification hour among others.
