Decades after it was released, Bob Marley’s greatest hits compilation is still performing incredibly well in the United States. The set, titled Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers, has never had a hard time moving units, but the project is on the rise following the release of a biopic about the musician.
This week, Legend lifts on five Billboard charts. It can almost always be found on all of them, rising and falling from frame to frame, though its current performance is notable, as it hasn’t ranked this high on most lists in some time.
On the Billboard 200, Legend jumps from No. 29 to No. 17. The set is back inside the top 20 on the ranking of the most-consumed albums in the country for the first time in a long while. According to information shared by Luminate, the company that powers the Billboard charts, the set shifted another 29,436 equivalent units in the past tracking frame. That’s up more than 35% from the week prior.
Legend is also a powerful seller once again. On the Top Album Sales chart, which focuses only on pure purchases, as opposed to equivalent units like the Billboard 200 (which include streaming activity), the compilation narrowly misses out on re-entering the top 10. This frame, it’s up to No. 11 from No. 14. In the past tracking week, the title sold another 6,766 copies. That’s up just over 25% from the period before.
The compilation actually manages to reach a new peak position on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Legend improves from No. 11 to No. 8, hitting a high it’s never seen before. The title has spent time inside the top 10 on the ranking of the most-consumed hip-hop, R&B, and rap full-lengths, but until now, it had only reached as high as No. 10.
The title likewise earns a new best showing on another, non-genre-specific tally. Legend is up to No. 23 on the Top Streaming Albums chart, which tracks the most successful projects in America on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, among others. On that tally, it steps up to No. 23 from No. 44–the largest leap on any ranking.
Marley and the Wailer’s beloved collection climbs to No. 3 on the Top R&B Albums, up from fifth place. It’s also a non-mover in first place on the Top Reggae Albums chart, though that’s nothing new for the effort, which is almost always in control of that roster.
Somehow, despite all the attention that the singer’s movie, Bob Marley: One Love, is attracting, the Legend compilation actually manages to fall on the Vinyl Albums chart. On that tally, it’s down to No. 9–a loss of just one space. It has previously ruled this ranking, as Legend remains one of the bestselling vinyl titles in the U.S.
