CBN: Emefiale May Enjoy Tenure Elongation As Governor

Information spreading very fast in the media is that President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Mr. Godwin Emefiele to continue for a second term as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). His first appointment, which was made by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014 after Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was removed comes to an end in June.

Newsbitsng.com learnt that the letter for the tenure elongation of the CBN boss, which was signed by Buhari has now been sent to the senate. By the CBN Act, the senate must confirm the nomination before it can take effect. If it goes through, Emefiele would be the first CBN governor that would enjoy tenure elongation since 1999.

The Delta State born 57-year-old banker was poached from Zenith Bank Plc where he was Group Managing Director. Should the senate support the move, he would be at the CBN till 2014. Nigeria would elect a new president in 2023.
