A Coalition of human rights groups has condemned vehemently the death sentence passed on Sheik Abduljabal Khabara Nasiru for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Mohammed.

The coalition is made up of five civil rights organizations such as the Civil Liberties Organisation, (CLO); Amnesty International (AI); Democratic Alternative (DA); Voice from the East, (VEast) and Civil Rights and Justice (CRJ).

The group, who made the condemnation in a communique issued after a zoom meeting, also condemned the extrajudicial killing of Daniel Akaluka, Margaret Agbahime and Deborah Smauel because of Islam. The coalition emphasised that governments should not pay for pilgrimages to Mecca or Jerusalem.

In the communique signed by Comrade Kindness Jonah of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), the coalition of civil rights group insisted that Sharia Laws should not be observed in Nigeria because of Nigeria’s secularity stance, adding that as a result, Sharia should not be allowed in the Constitution at all.

The communique reads as follows: “That sharia is a disaster that should not be allowed in Nigerian Constitution at all. Sharia is anti-modernity, a satanic and archaic masterstroke of bloodshed that should not be allowed in Democracy and Modernity.

“Islam is not democratic and can never be. Nigerian constitution should be perfectly secularized, which deletes any iota of religion. Mohamed as a human being died and did not Resurrect, and so, is dead and forgotten for many centuries past, and so, whatever he did had ended with him, and should not be allowed to guide our lives as living beings.

“Muslims must not freely kill so-called victims of blasphemy. Pilgrimage, either to Mecca or Jerusalem officially paid, should be made to stop in Nigeria: Let the pilgrims pay their fares and necessities, respectively. Muslims must not be permitted to be killing for their god they call Allah, rather let Allah fight for himself. Killers of Deborah Samuel, Daniel Akaluka, Margret Agbahime should be summarily and rightly prosecuted.”
