Coronavirus Pandemic Now In Imo State – NCDC

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Imo State has now recorded its first case of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Only few days ago when the Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, he commended the government of Imo State for preparing for the disease ahead of time. He however said he was surprised that the state has no case of the disease given the massive way people from the eastern part of the country travel all over the globe. He predicted that it was a matter of time before the virus arrived the state and cautioned that people should be careful by observing all the protocols as spelt out by the NCDC.

The NCDC informed of the Imo State index case of COVID-19 on Saturday night through Twitter from where it announced that 87 new infections were recorded in the country while 35 fatalities and 222 recoveries were reported. It said the deadly infection has spread to 29 states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to the NCDC, “87 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported; 33 in Lagos, 18 in Borno, 12 in Osun, 9 in Katsina, 4 in Kano, 4 in Ekiti, 3 in Edo, 3 in Bauchi and 1 in Imo. As at 11:55 pm 25th April, there are 1182 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria. Discharged: 222, Deaths: 35.”
