Enugu Guber: No Stopping LP, Edeoga, Thanks The People For Massive Support

By NewsBits

Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu Hon Chijioke Edeoga has thanked Enugu people for their massive support during last Saturday Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

Briefing reporters in Enugu, the former Commissioner noted that Labour Party is relatively a new political party, and not many pundits thought that it could do anything meaningful in the course of its participation in the current exercise.

“But, the outing of LP in the results that just came out, is beyond the imagination of many people. I think it’s a matter that we have to thank the people of Enugu State and all other persons who participated: the media, the church and all interests that came together to see that elections held in Enugu State and were substantially free and fair such as the armed forces, the police, the civil defense, and all segments of the society came together to insist that elections would hold in a relatively free and fair manner and that the outcome will be upheld.

“Most importantly, I want to most importantly thank President Muhammadu Buhari, who remained steadfast in signing the Electoral Act and putting in place a monetary policy that has made vote buying difficult and almost impossible. The absence of a money factor in this election, has helped substantially to get what one can say are the wishes of the people with regards to who will represent them in the National Assembly or who will be their choice in the presidency. So, it’s a golden moment for us in Enugu State.

“I’m not afraid of the next election. I hear stories of threats of violence and rigging. But I want to assure you that there won’t be any violence at all. The head has been cut off. It will end in threats only. Nothing is going to happen. The process will be smoother than the one that just passed.

“We’re equal to the task. I am in constant touch with the national security architecture. Throughout the election, I’ve been in touch with them. It’s just a matter of notifying them. Also, the youths they are trying to use for election violence are equally feeling the pains of bad leadership. Election violence will not guarantee any of them good job. So, nothing will happen. They are all about to be removed so that Enugu State will be better. We deserve better than we have now in all aspects.

On rumours that some PDP stalwarts are trying to jump ship ahead the guber elections, Edeoga said, “you are right. So, many of them are calling me and all I say is that they are welcome. The more the merrier. But that is not going to remove our focus from the change that will happen to Enugu State.”
