Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Beaten To Enugu Senatorial Seat By Labour Party’s Okechukwu Ezea

Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has lost his senatorial bid to the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the Enugu North Senatorial District, Okechukwu Ezea.

Ugwuanyi, who is rounding off his second term as the governor of Enugu State, is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Enugu North Senatorial District election held on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

The returning officer for the election, Prof. Chukwuemeka Ubaka, while announcing the result at the collation centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nsukka Local Government Area headquarters on Monday morning, said Ezea of the LP polled 104,492 votes to defeat Ugwuanyi of the PDP, who came second with 46,948 votes.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the district, Ejike Eze, came a distant third with 6,816 votes. Ubaka declared Ezea as the winner of the election because he “justified all the requirements of the law having scored the highest number of votes in the election.”
