Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command serving in Nkanu East Police Division said they have arrested two criminal suspects at Obinagu-Etiti Nara-Unateze in Nkanu East Local Government Area

The suspects, Chekwube Nwobodo aged 27, and Ifeanyi Edeh aged 30, were arrested on January 3, 2024, at about 2.40 p.m. According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the arrest of the suspects followed swift response to a distress call by the operatives.

Ndukwe disclosed that other members of the gang that specialised in armed robbery, burglary and other criminal activities, escaped and still being hunted by operatives adding that one locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, substances suspected to be crystal meth and marijuana were recovered from them.

“The arrest of the suspects, whose other gang members escaped but are being hunted, led to the recovery of one (1) locally fabricated pistol with two (2) live cartridges, pieces of substance suspected to be crystal meth (otherwise known as Mpkuru-Mmiri), and a quantity of weed suspected to be marijuana”.

“The suspects and gang members at large are alleged to have carried out a series of armed robberies, burglaries, and other criminal activities in the mentioned area. But having met their Waterloo, the suspects shall have the court of law to contend with once investigations are concluded’.

“This operational success is in alignment with the 2024 New Year assurances of the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), to the good people of Enugu State, that the Command will be more proactive and forward-looking in its policing approach this new year. Hence, the CP reassures that the Police commitment to actualize this remains unwavering’.
