Finally, Senate Confirms Banire As Board Chairman, AMCON

After weeks of political intrigues, which started with the nomination of Dr. Muiz Banire as the Board Chairman of Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), by the presidency, the Senate has finally confirmed his candidacy. Recall that allegations emerged shortly he was nominated months back that former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu was opposed to his nomination and made series of moves to stop the Senate from confirming him.

But with the latest development, it does appear that the Senate under the leadership of Dr. Bukola Saraki has ignored Tinubu and his intrigues as they on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 confirmed the appointment of Mr. Banire Muiz Adeyemi as Chairman, Governing Board of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

This is subsequent to the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, which screened Banire for confirmation. Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim, who chaired the committee presented the report, which recommended the confirmation of Banire as nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari. The Senate said that the confirmation was in compliance with Section 10(1) of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) Act, 2010.
