The acting Commandant, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Academy, Udi, Corps Commander Joseph Udoabba, has tasked officers and marshals of the Corps on regular exercise to keep fit and agile for duty.
Commander Udoabba gave the task at the end of a walking and jogging exercise as well as a friendly novelty match to mark the 35th Anniversary of the FRSC on Saturday in Udi near Enugu, capital of Enugu State. He said that the essence of the physical exercise was to keep officers and marshals in shape and duty ready at all times.
Udoabba said that the exercise, which will now be a regular one, would continue to improve existing synergy among personnel and promote team spirit. He said: “The exercise will help to keep all officers and marshals ready, agile and fit to meet the mandate of the Corps and deliver quick and emergency safety services to Nigerians if the need arises.”
He added that the exercise was very important as it would make some officers and marshals, who sit between 8a.m. and 4p.m. to carry out their duties, become flexible again. On the novelty match between FRSC team and All Stars FC, Enugu, the acting Commandant said that the football match would further create understanding and friendship between the FRSC and its publics.
According to Udoabba, the atmosphere of the novelty match has improved the existing cordial relationship between FRSC and members of its host community in Udi as they get to know each other better. “As well, the football match will promote a more cordial relationship between FRSC personnel and Enugu State residents in general,’’ he said.
The acting Commandant lauded the founding fathers of FRSC for their vision that had helped to bring efficient traffic management in the nation.
NewsBits recalls that the FRSC was established in February 18, 1988 by the then General Ibrahim Babangida-led military government. The novelty match between FRSC FC and All Stars FC, Enugu, ended 1 – 1; while the walk and jog exercise was carried out by officers and marshals of the FRSC Academy, Udi and FRSC Command and Staff College, Udi.
