GO-UNI Emerges Best 16th Public/Private University In Nigeria

Godfrey Okoye University (GO-UNI), Enugu has moved to the 16th position among all the 160 public and private universities in Nigeria.

The university is the 4th among the 76 private universities in the country and still maintains the first position among all the private universities in the Southeast and South-South Geo-political zones.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, who announced this while addressing journalists on the latest Uniranking, said that Godfrey Okoye University is more than a university but a space for the empowerment of young people.

Professor Anieke said that to achieve this, the management of the university has established the Center for practical skills, a start-up capital, and the European Business Park for the empowerment of young people to be gainfully employed.

The Vice Chancellor described the continued narrative and commitment of the institution as good news to young people, stressing that over 100 students from various secondary schools in the state have been trained in DNA services while 150 Nigerians are offered scholarships by the university annually.

“GOU is one university where English is a 3-year programme. This is the reason many of its graduates are in various tertiary institutions abroad for postgraduate studies as they are excellent in English and their areas of studies,” Professor Anieke said, adding:

“We always rely on God and fly with two wings, the wing of serious work and spirituality, as life begins in the university with prayers and ends with prayers, the Vice Chancellor stated”.

He explained that any person working in the institution must be dedicated to duty as there is no room for laziness, pointing out that presentation of evidence of attendance to duty by the staff has been introduced and no staff is allowed to cut corners in the discharge of duties.

The Vice Chancellor reminded the public that a college of medicine is now in operation in the institution while the university has taken over the Ntasobi Ndi No Na Afufu Hospital which, according to him, “will be totally rebuilt to be the best teaching and reference hospital in Enugu State.”

He explained that the Teaching hospital will partner an Austrian Teaching Hospital with students having the opportunity to travel and study in Austria and Germany after their 2nd or 3rd years of studying in Godfrey Okoye University.

Professor Anieke said that the university will commence courses in Nursing and Medical Laboratory and later add medical engineering and pharmacy. He announced that 50 graduates of the university are studying in the United Kingdom alone, including the institution’s Director of ICT, Mr. Chinedu Chibuzor, who, he said,  will soon conclude a Ph.D. programme.

Professor Anieke further announced that the staff of the university are now being ranked as part of their performance assessment, stressing that there is nothing like sit-at-home for the workers, as they work from home on Mondays when sit-at-home is observed in the Southeast states, while there is nothing like strike by staff as the management fulfil their terms of agreements.
