Goal Keeping: Man City Runs To Brazil For Cover

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City Football Club has made another addition to their squad with the recruitment of Brazillian, Ederson Moraes.

Call it panic buying or what you like but Guardiola on Thursday signed the up-and-coming Brazilian goalkeeper from Benfica. The announcement however came from the Portuguese champions. The 40-million-euro (£34.85m, $44.87m) deal makes the 23-year-old the most expensive goalkeeper since Juventus paid Parma 52 million euros for Gianluigi Buffon back in 2001.

Man City had made it clear that goalkeeper Willy Caballero would be moved on this summer while Claudio Bravo suffered a torrid first season, which raised doubts over the wisdom of allowing Joe Hart to leave the club on loan. No doubtm Man City struggled between the sticks last season although the managed to make it to the Champions League next season.

Manchester City began their recruitment campaign to wrest the Premier League title from Chelsea next season when they signed Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva from French champions Monaco in a deal reported to be worth almost 50 million euros last Friday. Guardiola recently cleared out four senior players including winger Jesus Navas and defender Gael Clichy after the club finished a distant third behind Premier League champions Chelsea this term.

It would be recalled that Guardiola had flourished both in Spain and in Germany where he was in charge of Barcelona FC and Baryen Munich respectively winning trophies effortlessly. But on arriving the English Premier League (EPL), he struggled all though the season. It sure does mean that he needed rejig the team because EPL unlike the other two leagues is not a 2-team league. It is tough and only the tough club with quality make it to the Champions League every year.
