Soldiers on election duty in Igalamela local government area of Kogi state early Saturday morning intercepted and arrested the council administrator, Onoja a.k.a Imported Monkey, several supporters of All Progressives Party, APC just as they impounded huge sums of money running into millions of naira as well as large cache of ammunitions.
The money packed in several Ghana-must-go bags and the ammunitions are now with the soldiers, who have also arrested them and the APC thugs who were supposed to use the money and arms during the election as they were seen sitting on bare floor near the army checkpoint.
In a viral video both the council chairman and his gang were seen expressing regrets and pleading for forgiveness, but the soldiers did not oblige. They reportedly confessed that the money was meant for distribution to voters at different polling units within the local government and Idah area during today’s governorship election.
The Advocate learnt that there are moves by Governor Yahaya Bello and his officials to secure their release as sources said frantic efforts were being made to order the soldiers to bring the suspects to the state capital, but the military authorities have insisted that they suspects be held with the recovered items until after the election today.
