Insecurity Across Nigeria: Gunmen Kill Two Soldiers At Enugu Checkpoint

More details on the attack and killing of policemen along the Enugu/Abakaliki expressway have emerged. A reliable police source confirmed to NewsBits that the rampaging gunmen first attacked the military checkpoint at Idodo, Enugu State before proceeding to the checkpoint at the boundary where they were said to have killed three policemen.

This brings to five the number of casualties left behind by the gunmen reportedly attacking security checkpoints along the Enugu/Abakaliki highway late Saturday evening. The police also confirmed that the hoodlums operated with two Sienna vehicles. Report said they opened fire at the Idodo military checkpoint and killed two soldiers in the shootout that followed.

The armed men were said to have proceeded towards Ebonyi and again opened fire on the policemen on duty at the boundary checkpoint between Enugu and Ebonyi. Three policemen were killed on the spot while another policeman who was shot on the leg is said to be receiving treatment at a hospital in the Ebonyi State Capital. The police in Ebonyi have also confirmed the report.
