Insecurity In Nigeria As Violent Clash Erupts Between Soldiers And Gunmen In Plateau State

Reports reaching our newsroom have detailed a violent clash between soldiers and gunmen in two villages within the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on early Saturday morning.

The clash reportedly unfolded following the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on the restive Mangu LGA by the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang. The initial 24-hour curfew was adjusted on Friday night to operate from 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.

During the conflict in Satguru and Tyop villages, both located in Mangu LGA, approximately 30 gunmen were reported killed, and some soldiers sustained injuries. A security operative, not authorised to speak on the matter, revealed that the incident occurred between 7:00a.m. and 7:30 a.m. The operative described how dozens of gunmen initiated an attack on communities along Gindiri Road, triggering an immediate response from security forces.

The outcome saw around 30 gunmen lose their lives, while over 50 were apprehended, accompanied by the seizure of firearms and ammunition. Four soldiers reportedly sustained injuries during the clash. A local source independently confirmed the incident, expressing ongoing fear among residents in the area due to the prevailing unrest.

As of the time of reporting, Oya James, the Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), responsible for security in Plateau and Bauchi State, including parts of Southern Kaduna, was unavailable for comment on the unfolding situation. Forbes will continue monitoring the developments closely.
