NASS Elections: Leave Ugwuanyi Alone, You Caused Your Downfall, Ray Nnaji Replies Nnamani

By NewsBits

Former National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ray Nnaji, has asked former Enugu State Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani, to stop blaming Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and others, but himself for his defeat in last Saturday’s senatorial election in Enugu East.

Nnaji who addressed a world press conference in Enugu Thursday said he would have been surprised if Nnamani, who, he said, contested the election without a political party, had won the election. He insisted that the former governor failed the election even before the first vote was cast.

Nnaji, a lawyer and former Commissioner in the state during the Nnamani administration, stated that throwing punches and accusations against the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the PDP and even the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, and his supporters over his defeat would expose him to more ridicule and portray him as someone without shame.

Nnaji stated: “You should understand the kind of person Nnamani is. His failure is making him feel bad. Unfortunately, he failed to realize that he failed even before the election. I thought he would have made reference to me, because I was the one that started the process that led to his expulsion. He had failed before anything. He went into the election without any platform, because the party did not have a candidate for Enugu East senatorial election.”

On the allegation that Ugwuanyi contributed to his failure, Nnaji said: “He is supposed to thank Ugwuanyi for bringing him back after being in limbo for a long time. A second opportunity was given to him, and he did not utilize it well. He should desist from these attacks, as they tend to destroy him the more if there is any credibility left in him.

“He said: “Former governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani naming Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the cause of his defeat was laughable because he knew I, Barr. Ray Nnaji was the one that wrote the petition. I wrote the petition to the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and even threatened to take them to court if they failed to discipline him.

“He also queried who financed his suspension, believing I wouldn’t have done that; very unfortunate. His intentions is to cripple me financially that’s why he did what he did even while we were in office. And he believes I can’t even buy a biro to write my petition and post through courrier. Let it be known that I didn’t discuss with anyone and nobody gave me money even the suit I filed in court.”
