Nigeria Customs Service Impounds N2.9billion Cash At Lagos Airport

DEVELOPING STORY: Information reaching us from our Correspondent in Lagos has it that the Muritala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a whopping $8,061,000. The money translates to over N2.9billion when exchanged at prevailing rate of N360/$). NCS suspects that the currency belongs to high-profile traffickers.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, where the seizure was disclosed, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), the Comptroller-General of Customs, said the currency was intercepted in a bus belonging to the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) bus at the airport tarmac. Ali also informed the media that after the preliminary investigations by the Customs, the money will be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigations.
