As is tradition, public holiday has been declared for Monday October 1, 2018 by the federal government of Nigeria to commemorate Nigeria’s 58th Independence anniversary. In a statement by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.), through the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Mohammed Umar. Dambazau congratulated Nigerians on the anniversary and urged them to sustain the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration at ‘maintaining and strengthening the unity and peace of the country.’
He restated government’s commitment to promoting national unity, economic growth, social and political development based on democratic principles. The minister added that in the past 58 years, Nigeria had made a lot of progress and positive impact not only on the lives of its citizens, but also on infrastructure development as well as international relations, amongst others.
