Office Of Accountant-General Of Nigeria Gutted By Fire

The office of the Accountant-General of the Federation located in the heart of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja has been gutted by fire. The building is located in Garki Area 11, Abuja. The cause of the fire, which started about 10 am, is yet to be known as at the time of this report. However, we gathered that the fire, which started on the 3rd floor received the attention of men of the Federal Fire Service when they were alerted to assist in putting out the fire.

They were later joined by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as well as the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB). It is worrisome because the FCT, Abuja is on lockdown as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari to enable the country to contain the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which is ravaging the whole world.

It is therefore surprising as to what could trigger the fire incident as civil servants in Abuja are not at work as a result of the lockdown just like their counterparts in Lagos and Ogun States, the two other state that the President ordered cessation of movement. Spokesman of the FCT Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma, told journalists the cause will be investigated.
