Onu Lived An Immaculate Life – Ex-DG VON Okechukwu

By Tony Adibe

The former Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr Osita Okechukwu, has said that the former governor of old Abia State, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu was an immaculate person, both in body, soul, and his white apparels.

NewsBits recalls that the late Dr Onu served as the first civilian governor of old Abia state, before the creation of Ebonyi State in October 1, 1996, by the then military Head of State, late General Sani Abacha.

Onu, who was a former minister in the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, passed away on Thursday morning after battling an undisclosed illness. Okechukwu, who is a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said this in a condolence message made available to newsmen on Thursday evening.

Onu lived a successful and eventful life, according to Okechukwu, who added: “His humility and diligence is uncommon. “He was a brilliant scholar with distinctions at primary, secondary and tertiary education. He once told a story of how his Headmaster procured Mary Knoll Secondary School, Ogoja form for him due to his exceptional brilliance.”

Okechukwu prayed that the Almighty God grant the fortitude to his lovely wife, immediate family and Uburu community to bear the irreparable loss. He said: “They should take solace on the truism that God gives and takes. For Dr Onu going by the lyrics of American composer, Irvin Berlin the Song ends and the melody lingers.”
