Police Arrest Social Media User Who Tweeted ‘Let’s Kill All The Igbos

The Osun State Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old man, Kehinde Adekusibe, for his use of hateful language on the microblogging site, Twitter. The arrest was announced by the Public Relations Officer of the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, via his verified Twitter handle, @Princemoye1, on Thursday.

According to a statement titled “Osun Police Arrests Social Media User Who Tweeted ‘Let’s Kill All The Igbos’,” Adekusibe violated the social media policy on hate speech.

On May 18, 2023, Adekusibe, using his Twitter handle, posted the following tweets: “Let’s kill all the Igbos. Let’s flush them out of Yoruba lands. I hate these people with passion. They are violent people. They are the worst. They hate us. Let’s hate them without holding back.”

Upon learning of this hateful act, the Osun State Police Command’s cybercrime section at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo swiftly launched an investigation. Through intelligence-led efforts, the suspect was apprehended in Ilesa, where he had been hiding.

The arrested individual, Kehinde Adekusibe, has admitted to committing the offense. Once the investigation is completed, he will be charged in court. Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi expressed gratitude to the state police command for their exceptional efforts in handling the matter.

He stated, “We have taken the necessary steps in this case. It may take some time, but every offense leaves a trace, and the culprits will undoubtedly face the consequences.”
