Prof. Ikonne: Senator Abaribe Mourns, Suspends Campaigns

Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe on Wednesday expressed sadness for the death of governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Professor Uche Eleazer Ikonne.

Consequently, the Senator who represents Abia South and currently the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) announced the suspension of his campaigns for three days as a mark of respect and honour to the fallen PDP Candidate.

In a statement by his Media Adviser, Uchenna Awom released in Aba, Abia State on Wednesday Senator Abaribe said irrespective of political party differences, he must honour the dead who is an illustrious son of Abia State, an erudite scholar and of course his friend. He said it is very difficult for him to think of or reference Professor Ikonne as dead, adding that he had hoped he would come out of the health challenge stronger and join his campaigns for the Gubernatorial election in March.

“I’m pained and devastated over this development. We belong to different political parties, but he was my friend and brother. It is very unfortunate and disheartening that he has to die now in the middle of the campaign

“It’s a great loss and one that has put our people in a very difficult political situation. Death is inevitable. God knows the best. Adieu Prof.”, he said.

Senator Abaribe however commiserated with the family of deceased, the Ngwa nation and government and people of Abia State.
