The family of the late former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON has officially announced his death. The announcement, which came by way of a Press Release signed by his brother and the traditional ruler of Oko reads: “The Ekwueme family regrets to announce the Peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON. Since the former Vice President died, the media have been awash with the news of his death but this Prof. Laz Ekwueme’s statement is the first official comment since his demise. But since he passed on well-meaning Nigerians including President Muhammadu Buhari, former Presidents Shehu Shagari, Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-military President Ibrahim Babangida have continued to pay glowing tributes to the late Second Republic Vice President. Ekwueme passed on Sunday night in London where he had been receiving treatment since November 13.
