Student Stabs Teacher To Death In Jalingo Taraba State

A senior secondary school (SSS 3) student who just graduated at Model Nursery, Primary and Secondary School, Jalingo in Taraba State has stabbed his teacher to death in the premises of the school.

Trouble allegedly started when the alleged killer whose name is yet-to-be identified along with his four friends met the teacher, Mr Basil Sadauna, to sign their final year receipt papers in the school. The deceased reportedly objected to their request because it was beyond the teacher’s responsibility.

An eyewitness who is also a student of the school told the media Friday on condition of anonymity that some of the colleagues of Sadauna who were standing with him when the students came asked the teacher to ignore them and leave to his office.

He said “They were all standing there under the mango tree when the students came to the uncle as he is fondly called, we were close, and we listened to their conversation very well. Both of them were our senior students here, they were five in number.

“The first one forwarded his papers to uncle to sign, and he rejected. It was as if they wanted it immediately. The other teachers asked him to ignore them so that they can go back to their offices. The other four students said he (teacher) cannot go anywhere, there was a serious argument.

“Uncle (teacher) wanted to leave, the first student who forwarded his papers removed a knife from his shirt and stabbed him. They started running, and the rest of the two teachers went after them. Uncle was bleeding seriously; they were then stopped at the gate of the school to rush back and look for a way to rescue him from the bleeding. That was when they came and took him out of the school for treatment.”

The teacher was taken to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo where he was confirmed dead. The police public relations officer of the Taraba State command, Usman confirmed the incident when he was contacted by our correspondent.

“It has been confirmed, the case is under investigation,” Usman stated.
