Three persons – one male and two females were reportedly crushed at about 1pm on to Thursday around the Adoration Junction and the Umuchigbo Market, Emene, in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
An eyewitness said that the victims were walking along the road when a fast moving Toyota Venza car, marked KUJ 278 CW with the driver and two passengers racing towards the Adoration Junction, suddenly rammed into them, crushing them on the spot.
The three corpses, however, have been taken to an unknown mortuary in Emene by an ambulance while some army personnel who arrived at the accident scene shortly after in a patrol vehicle were seem controlling traffic and keeping the peace in the area, the witness said.
But the whereabouts of the driver and the two passengers of the vehicle are still not known as at the time of filing this report since they abandoned the badly damaged car and their phones before they escaped, according to the witness, who added that no one is sure of the real cause of the road crash.
Large crowd reportedly gathered to catch a glimpse of the accident scene while some people believed to be sympathisers and relatives of the dead were seen in tears over the unfortunate incident.
