Tension in Anambra Community As Unknown Gunmen Shoot One Kidnap Another

Nanka community in Orumba South local government area of Anambra state has been thrown into state of pandemonium and tension following the reported gruesome murder and adoption of two natives of the community by yet to be identified gunmen.

The sad incident happened in the evening of November 11th, 2023; it was learnt. A community source said the gunmen, who stormed the community in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), killed one Mr. Joe Mohel, a native of the town and also whisked away another native of the community whose name was given as Ichie Patrick Ezeanaka, a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party in Nanka.

An eyewitness stated that Mr. Joe Mohel, a ward chairman of YPP in Nanka was shot dead following an attempt to escape from the unknown gunmen that attempted to abduct him alongside Ichie Ezeanaka, who surrendered to them and was whisked away.

Ichie Patrick Ezeanaka a community leader and strong PDP member in Nanka community had reportedly escaped two previous kidnapping attempts by gunmen until this last one.

Following this incident, the residents of the community who are now living in fear expressed worries that the activities of the Unknown Gunmen is now becoming a daily occurrence in the community.

When contacted, the Anambra State Police Command spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident. “We’ve gotten the report and the command has commenced investigation and we are doing everything to see to the save return of the kidnap victim.

On the reported shooting and kidnap, Ikenga said “the command got the report that one person was shot on the stomach but i can’t confirm if he made it alive after being taken to the hospital.” At the time of this report, the kidnappers haven’t made any contact with the family of their victim.
