Three Killed, Many Abducted As Bandits Attack Niger Communities

*Bandits, jihadists and Fulani herdsmen are on rampage in most northern states of Nigeria with the government doing little or nothing

The weekend was an Easter not to be remembered by some communities in Niger State who came under heavy attacks by bandits on Sunday night. The sudden attacks resulted in the killing of three people with scores adopted. One of the people killed was Pastor Joseph Dakinwasha of the Baptist Church at Maikujeri town.

Maikujeri, Tasha and Shamuyambu were the communities that were attacked by the bandits who eyewitness said descended to the communities at about 10.30pm. The attacks came just a few days after the Nigeria Air Force had bombarded the hideouts of the bandits killing several of them.

Recounting the sad experience, the villages said, “Many other villagers were wounded and have been admitted at a hospital in Maikujeri, one of the towns raided by the bandits. The bandits were about 30 in number who rode on motorcycles and were shooting sporadically sending villagers to run for the safety of their lives. Some of us ran into the bush and remained there for almost two hours that the bandits operated,” an eyewitness said.
