Toke Makinwa comes under attack over NYU lecture

Toke Makinwa has become a subject of controversy over her reported invitation as a guest lecturer at the New York University (NYU).

The media personality who is expected to give an address on “Building a Successful Brand in the Digital space” was questioned by fans regarding the authenticity of the NYU visit.

An Instagram user with the ID ‘mr_so_made_rich’ , also known as Richard Somade asked the book author to indicate the location where she would be giving her lecture on the campus but wasn’t the bit satisfied with her response.

“Hey Toke, let’s know which room the lecture is taking place and the time. Some of us here at NYU School of Law will like to listen to your lecture,” he wrote.

Makinwa referred the inquisitive fan to Lilian Ajayi, a professor in the institution for information concerning her planned address.

This proved to be unsatisfactory, birthing more probing remarks from her devotees.

Ajayi in her response wrote:“@tokemakinwa We are excited to have you on campus today. This is a closed event and not open to the public”  but this only introduced more smeary comment.

Another IG user, ‘achalugo.nwanyi’ insisted that the OAP makes correction regarding her earlier comment which misled fans to think that she will be giving a general lecture at NYU.

Nwanyi added that the OAP is scheduled to address a class, not the entire school community.

She wrote, “I’m confused as well @mr_so_made_rich . I am a student at NYU and I totally agree with you. Toke is probably speaking at @lilianajayi ‘s class. (Lilian is an adjunct professor I at NYU SPS).

“That’s normal because even students speak at classes across the school. Not a Big Deal.

“People are calling out Toke because she made it seem like she’s speaking to the general NYU Audience (this is a BIG DEAL) given to people of certain repute such as Global Execs, Presidents, PMs etc. So Biko, Toke should correct her statement. No hate! Just facts!”
