Tricycle Ban: Police To Arrest Riders, Passengers In Lagos

Following the ban on tricycle across six local government areas of Lagos State by the state government, the Police Command in Lagos State has announced that it will arrest both motorcyclists, and passengers as part of measures to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycle operations in Lagos State.

Mr Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson announced this at the weekend in his Twitter handle. “Under the new total ban of motorcycles in the six local government areas of Lagos State, passengers and riders alike will be arrested and prosecuted. The passenger is an accomplice. Ignorance will not be an excuse,” the Tweet stated.

Recall the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on Wednesday imposed a fresh and total ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, on all highways across six local government areas and nine local council development areas in Lagos State. The affected areas are Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Apapa respectively.

The governor made the declaration during a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Area Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers. The public believe that the new order may not be unconnected by the recent killing of a Sound Engineer by Hausa Okada riders in the state.
