The Finance Minister, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, yesterday suspended the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Mr. Mounir H. Gwarzo from Office. The suspension, we learnt was to allow for an unhindered investigation of several allegations of financial impropriety levelled against Mr. Gwarzo.
According to a press release signed by Deputy Director Press of Federal Ministry of Finance, Patricia Deworitshe, the Finance Minister said the suspension was in line with the Public Service Rules (PSRs) 03405 and 03406. Recall that the Minister set up an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate and determine the culpability of the Director-General. There was no how the DG would be sitting and would not influence proceedings.
In the release, Mrs. Adeosun ordered the suspended Director-General to immediately hand over to the most senior officer at the Commission, pending the conclusion of the investigation by the inquiry. Also suspended are two management staff of the Commission that include Mr. Abdulsalam Naif Habu, who is Head of Media Division and Mrs. Anastasia Omozele Braimoh, who is Head of Legal Department. Both Staff were alleged to have also engage in financial impropriety in the Commission.
