Finally, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has resigned his appointment with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government over allegation that she forged her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate. Information filtered the news apace earlier today over the resignation of the embattled Minister over the status of hers NYSC certificate scandal.
Although officials of the ministry could not confirm the minister’s resignation as at press time, claiming that they were not aware of the development, eye witness has it that her official car was parked at the minister’s parking lot. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Mallam Garba Shehu, told the media that he had not been brief on such development.
It could not be ascertained when she resigned as she was said to have reported for work in the morning. Sources however said Adeosun’s resignation was connected with the certificate scandal that had dogged her in the past months. The pressure was much especially since the current administration of President Buhari has continued to maintain that it is fighting corruption and expected Mr. President to act before now.
Premium Times an Abuja-based online platform had carried an exclusive report alleging that the minister forged an exemption certificate of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) after failing to enroll for the one-year mandatory scheme for all Nigerian graduates. Sadly and to the disappointment of Nigerians, despite public pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack her, she was still being accommodated by the government. In July, the authorities of the NYSC promised to investigate the origin of the purported exemption certificate issued to her. It is believed that NYSC might have turned it its report which, if made public, would embarrass the federal government.
