The Ebonyi State Transport Corporation, (EBOTRANS), has disclosed plans to introduce new routes across the 36 states in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The development came just as Governor Francis Nwaifuru has reportedly appointed a former cleaner in the establishment, Mrs. Nnenna Nwigwe the current General Manager. The new General Manager of the Corporation, Mrs. Nnenna Igwe, announced plans to introduce the new routes on Wednesday at a church service, to mark her assumption of office in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
Mrs. Igwe extolled the efforts of the state governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru, in turning the Corporation to a world-class transport firm, through the provision of 20 brand new Hiace buses, among other intervention projects, for the Company.
She pledged total commitment to the repositioning of the Corporation, adding that it will be remodeled as one of the best transport companies in the country. The General Manager promised good working relationship with all the management and staff of the Corporation, to actualize the vision of the state governor, in reviving the company to meet the transport needs of the people.
She said: “I shall take urgent practical steps to reposition EBOTRANS to serve not only the transport needs of our people but other Nigerians by expanding our operations. In driving this initiative, I will ensure accountability and good governance of vehicles and equally embark on the training and retraining of our drivers, to guarantee the safety of our passengers.”
Mrs. Igwe further said, “we shall also introduce new routes across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Our services will be anchored on integrity, safety concerns, customer care, and affordability.”
Earlier in a sermon, the Founder of the Nso Na Agha Adoration Centre, Abakaliki, Rev.Fr. Kenneth Nome, urged the General Manager, to continue to embrace the spirit of humility in her new office.
The Catholic Priest observed that the General Manager was gradually promoted from being cleaner to the apex position in the transport company, because of her humility and dedication to duty. He commended Governor Nwifuru for appointing Mrs. Igwe to the position, and urged the people, to support her, to deliver on the new assignment.
In their separate remarks, the State Woman leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mrs. Queendarlyn Nwigwe, the company’s Head of Administration, Mrs.Beatrice Nebe, and its Operation Manager, Mr. Innocent Obiahu, congratulated Mrs Igwe for deserving the appointment.
They further urged her to work together with the staff of the Corporation, adding that her appointment was a true demonstration of Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to promoting women’s inclusion and excellent services in governance.
