#EndSARSmemorial: Police Fire Tear Gas At Lekki Tollgate

Protesters and civilians alike fled the scene of the procession of #EndSARSmemorial. A journalist who works for Arise TV, Oba Adeoye, was also allegedly harassed.There was also gridlock at the Lekki Tollgate on Thursday morning as youths marked the second anniversary of the Lekki shooting.

Many commuters were stranded as the procession led by comedian, Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni and singer, Folarin Falana aka Falz continued. Reacting, the Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said there was no gunshots and that peaceful protesters were allowed to move around.

“Peaceful persons were allowed to move around without interference from the police. Some of them that decided to be lawless and start mounting the toll complex, an action threatening the existing law and order in the area, were dispersed with teargas.

“There was no use of baton, neither was there physical contact. We equally do not have any record of shooting. We would, however, appreciate evidence of gunshots, maybe a video, to enable us take appropriate action,” Hundeyin tweeted on Thursday.
