By Magnus Aluma, Abakaliki

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Nwifuru has called on the people of the State, to criticise his administration constructively, while also exercising patience with his government, to deliver on the needs of the Ebonyi people.

Nwifuru made the call Saturday, in a media chat and accountability forum, organised for members of the State Executive Council in Abakaliki as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary and the 27th Anniversary of the creation of Ebonyi State.

He said the event would allow his executive council members to disclose the modest achievements of his administration from May, this year. According to him, “it would afford the commissioners the opportunity to showcase their modest achievements since assumption of office.

Nwifuru, further said his emergence as Governor in the state is an opportunity to serve Ebonyi people at this critical time, adding that the manifesto of his administration is to consolidate on the achievements of immediate past administration.

He said that within one hundred and fifty-two days, his administration, had been vested to drive the policies that border on the needs of the people.

“The Commissioners are the ones in charge of the implementation of our manifesto and today we are here to interact with you to disclose our modest achievements and strides. This portrays our commitment to our adherence to the tenets of democracy.

We have set the foundation for the future to serve Ebonyi people and save the future of our children and also satisfy the needs of our people,” he emphasised.

He also said, “we request that you continue to support us because the government cannot do it alone. We need your constructive criticism and patience because we are not perfect. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that we deliver.”

Earlier in an opening remark, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Hon. Jude Okpor said members of the state executive council would tell the world what they have achieved within the time they assumed office.

“Exco members are going to tell the world what they have achieved. It is the direction of what they will achieve in the next eight years,” he stated.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Ben Odoh said since his assumption of office, his ministry has ensured a paradigm shift by digitalising the activities of the ministry.

He said Ebonyi State now has an e-ministry of justice such that the public can now access case status to ascertain lawyers who are serious in handling their cases.

“We have developed an e-ministry of justice. You can sit at your house and check our case in court and see what we are doing at the Ministry of Justice. With this, we will be able to know lawyers who are not serious with their cases,” he said.

Governor Nwifuru will today, flag off the distribution of some palliative materials to the people of the state, to cushion the effects of the fuel removal on the people.

This will be followed by a match past at the Government House premises, while an interdenominational church service will also hold at Government House Chapel, Abakaliki, to wrap up the anniversary celebration.
