Three persons have been reportedly killed by Lightening in Ndegwu autonomous community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State. The victims were identified by a source as Emeka Mbah from Umuejekubi, Umuahum and Chigbo Odionye from Umuadi Umuogwuta.

An insider from the community, who disclosed this on Tuesday, said the victims and others were busy working at a new buildingsite in the community when the incident occurred. The lightning struck the deceased persons and two others working at the building site but the other two were said to be fortunate as they received slight injuries during the incident.

While the deceased were taken to a nearby hospital by youths of the community, the other two returned to their homes with little bruises. A reliable source from the community said that a white ram was earlier noticed moving around the community, indicating a bad omen.

The source said: “We saw a white ram moving up and down. This is not a good omen at all. It did not take long before the lightning struck and killed the two youths. Nobody expected the lightning and thunder to kill them. The rain was not much, and the lightning was not heavy. We are still wondering what really happened, it’s the first time such will happen.”

It was learnt that wives of the two victims, including a nursing mother, expressed sadness over the development. The source further disclosed that a similar case was recorded at Umuoba, Orogwe same day when lightning struck an automobile electrician, also known as Edi. The victim, according to him, has already been buried.
