Responsible Leadership: Lagos Govt. Seals Event Centre Where Petrol Was Shared As Party Souvenir

In a development that received applause across the country, the Lagos State Government on Saturday sealed Havillah Event Centre at Oniru, Victoria Island area of Lagos, where kegs of petrol were shared as party souvenir.

This was made known via a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho at the weekend. He stated that the event centre was sealed for contravening Public Safety Rules.

With the public outcry that followed the news especially when the video went viral on social media, the party hostess Dr Pearl Chidinma Ogbulu, apologised for her indiscretion in serving the highly inflammable commodity at the event, to celebrate her installation as the Erelu Okin of Orile Kemta, Lagos, by Oba Adetokunbo Tejuosho.

A video of the petrol kegs being shared at the party had gone viral on social media. “The action is dangerous and can lead to loss of lives and property. It is blatantly against all safety measures in such places,” Omotosho said in the statement. He added: “The Lagos State Government says all those involved in such unlawful act will face the law.

“The safety of lives and properties of Lagosians and visitors remain a top priority to the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration. We, therefore, advise that actions that can lead to loss of lives and properties be avoided.” Nigerians have continued to go through intense hardship to fuel their vehicles and power their generators as fuel scarcity continues to bite harder across major cities and towns.
