Suspected Oil Theft: NSCDC Impounds Carrier Truck In Enugu State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Enugu State Command said its operatives have impounded a carrier truck, carrying stolen crude oil. The NSCDC Commandant in Enugu, Mr. Mohammed Dada, made this known while briefing newsmen in Enugu on Thursday.

Dada said, “On the night of the 25th of October 2023, at exactly 0100 hours, the office of the Anti-Vandal Team of the Command received credible intel regarding the movement of vandalised oil in an unregistered MAN Truck from Lokpanta, Abia State. “Responding swiftly to this intel, the NSCDC Anti-Vandal Team immediately swung into action.”

He explained that his men engaged the unregistered truck in an attempt to halt its progress, but was resisted by the vandals which resulted in one casualty on the part of the oil thieves while others abandoned the truck and fled.

He said, “upon reaching Otigba Junction in Enugu, the Anti-Vandal Team engaged the unregistered MAN truck in an attempt to halt its progress. This action prompted strong resistance by the vandals which action resulted in one casualty on the part of the oil thieves; while the others abandoned the truck and fled.

Dada said the team successfully recovered the truck and its illicit cargo, consisting of 8 drums and 60 jerricans filled with stolen crude oil concealed in jerricans.

“The swift and effective response of the NSCDC Anti-Vandal Team played a vital role in thwarting this illegal activity, recovering stolen property, and ensuring that justice is served.” he added.
