Few days to the presidential election, which holds on Saturday February 25, 2023, Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has denied endorsing the All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu, one of the candidates for the election is touted to have a lot of baggage coming into the election when compared to other candidates. The fact that his party, the APC has been in the saddle for the past eight years that has seen Nigeria degenerate in all indications also left Prof Soyinka no option than to constantly criticise the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC, which Tinubu was instrumental to inflicting on Nigerians.
Soyinka therefore described a social media remark linking him to Tinubu’s endorsement as false. A statement by his media office said Nigerians should disregard reports that Soyinka issued a message denigrating political parties and politicians.
“Soyinka did NOT at any time or on any occasion issue such a statement. It is simply the work of peddlers of fake news and falsehood, who profit from misinformation to gain political advantages,” the statement reads.
