The Enugu State Government has issued final notice to owners of properties marked for demolition along Abakpa – Opi Nsukka and Enugu Airport Flyover – Eke – Amech-Idodo Highway to vacate within 24 hours as the demolition exercise would commence on Saturday January 1.
Affected by the demolition notice are property owners and occupants along the 44.1km Nike Lake Road dualisation Project (Penoks Nowas Ugwogo Opi Nsukka dualisation, Abakpa Nike Opi Nsukka Junction) and the 21.5km dualisation of the Enugu Airport Road Flyover Bridge at Eke Obinagu Owo Junction Amechi Idodo Ebonyi Border.
A statement issued by Ngozi Ngene, Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Ministry of Works & Infrastructure, on Friday, said the demolition exercise will commence on Saturday, 1st February 2025. The affected structures along the 44.1km Nike Lake Road will include those marked in the area of the Penoks Nowas Ugwogo Opi Nsukka dualisation and Abakpa Nike Opi Nsukka Junction.
Also affected are marked structures along the 21.5km dualisation of the Enugu Airport Road Flyover Bridge at Eke Obinagu down to Owo Junction and Amechi Idodo Ebonyi Border. The statement urged all property owners and occupants to promptly remove their belongings and vacate the premises to prevent damage and minimise the risk of loss of life.
The Advocate reported that some property owners and occupants along the affected roads had since vacated their premises dismantling some of the structures and relocating them to other areas.
