Anambra South Senatorial: Emecheta Declares Readiness To Replace Late Ifeanyi Ubah

The immediate past Managing Director of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, Dr. Jude Emecheta, has declared his intention to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in the Senate, describing himself as the most qualified for the role.

Speaking to journalists in Awka on Thursday, Emecheta announced his bid to represent Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, vowing to prioritize security in collaboration with the state government.

“I am the best person to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. I have carefully assessed the profiles of other aspirants, and while I respect their qualifications, none of them is prioritizing security or the development of our district. Governor Soludo’s vision for Anambra cannot be achieved without security,” he said.

Emecheta emphasized that insecurity remains the biggest challenge in Anambra South, deterring wealthy indigenes from returning home to invest. According to him, most crimes in the state are cross-border, and tackling these issues will be his foremost priority if elected.

“How can you represent people who are not secure? Without security, our people cannot thrive. If elected, I will work to ensure that Anambra South is safe and conducive for economic growth,” he added.

The former agency boss criticized other aspirants for focusing on securing constituency projects and distributing handouts such as rice, yams, and motorcycles. He argued that such measures are unsustainable and fail to address the district’s long-term needs.

“Handouts will not solve our problems. If we secure Anambra South, our wealthy sons and daughters can come home to establish factories and create jobs. My mission is to protect my people and secure our future,” Emecheta explained.

Addressing allegations of being a protégé of Edozie Njoku, Emecheta acknowledged their friendship but clarified his stance on Njoku’s controversial actions against the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). “Njoku is my friend, and I won’t deny him because of politics. However, I have repeatedly urged him to stop his actions against APGA, even involving past and present party leaders, Dr. Victor Oye and Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, to mediate. My loyalty to APGA is unwavering,” he stated.
